CHUCKâHot spies, evil spies, nerd humor, action, comedy, what's not to love?
The advertisement I viewed when I was watching online episodes of Heroes finally drew me in.
Let me state that I read through a number of comments giving this show horrible reviews and wondered whether the reviewers actually watched it. There must be some school for angry would-be actors, directors, and movie critics that requires one hates everything one watches.
Does Chuck require you suspend some disbelief? Yes. Is Chuck a major awards threat? No (although I think it should be). Is it the most fun I've had watching TV? Yes! Chuck is a breath of fresh air in a crowded field of mediocre TV and movies. It is as if the creators reached inside my brain to find all the elements that would have me both care about every character and have at least two belly laughs per episode.
Let's start with the basic idea. Chuck works as a member of the "Nerd Herd" at a "Buy More." This is a spoof of Best Buy and its Geek Squad. Having worked at a Best Buy myself for a little over a year, I find their depiction of that culture an absolute riot. While sometimes a bit over the top, the Buy More is populated with employees who closely resemble people I actually worked with.
The set up: Chuck has the contents of an NSA/CIA supercomputer downloaded visually into his brain via an email from his old college roommate. It isn't long before the NSA and CIA figure out that his brain is the only place to find tons of government secrets and data. The agencies begin to protect him and send him on missions to utilize the information in his head. I know a lot about computers and networking; while this whole premise requires suspension of disbelief, what doesn't? Sit back and enjoy the ride. Zach Levi and Yvonne Strahovski have great chemistry, and I am constantly pulling for them as a potential couple. Adam Baldwin is great as the wry assassin with a heart of gold. I want to have lunch with every other character as well, including Chuck's sister Ellie and her boyfriend Devin (aka Capt. Awesome).
As a normal guy who was pretty shy and borderline nerdy in high school, I relate to these characters, and I absolutely love every pop culture or fanboy reference. Allusions to Star Wars, Dune, Lost, and many others abound.
If you are male and have any heart conditions, be advised that one episode may induce a stroke or heart attack. I nearly choked to death on a pizza slice when seeing Yvonne Strahovski dressed as slave girl Princess Leia.
Let's start by a special point : this show is not for serious people. Anyone that take this series as a Grail for great footage and huge story is putting his finger in his eye. Never gonna happen, my friend.
It's just a good dumb show, and I'm OK with it, happily OK in fact. Even if the love story is getting lame after 2 seasons of " I love you - so don't I" ( reminds me of an old french song : Je t'aime moi non plus de Serge Gainsbourg - of course i'm french), the characters are funny, just as stupid as you love them to be. The writers should stop this love story and build a new one with one or two new hot and funny characters.
There is a place for a new girl, a redhead would be great, between Sarah and Chuck sister, it would be awesome ! Stories in the shop are hilarious, with a collection of geeks that could win the prize for the most amazing human form without a gram of cleverness.
Sarah is gorgeous, you're just like Avery's wolf each time she appears in the screen. Adam Baldwin is awfully good, in his square brain soldier role, with no place in his head for nothing else than guns and short words ( grumph !).
I love everything in this show, cast, set, stories, the good, the bad and the ugly jokes, so i just hope it will last for a long time. Thanks to the guys making this. ( and pardon my french
