How do i become a coast guard pilot? (helicopter)?
what are the stepps to becoming a coast guard helicopter pilot?
1. Graduate from a 4 year college or university.
2. Become a USCG officer (either by USCGA graduation, which also covers the degree, or by applying to and being accepted into OCS)
3. Apply to and be accepted into flight school. Be aware that very few officers are accepted into flight school right away without doing other officer jobs first.
4. Choose and be selected for helicopter specialization (vice fixed wing aircraft) midway through flight school (the first part of flight school is the same for everyone, if flying C-130s or HH-65s).
5. Receive your wings and graduate flight school.
Counting college, it's generally about a 7 to 10 year process for most. (~4 yrs in college, ~2 yrs as a general CG officer, ~18 months in flight school).
